UTMB CCC 2025 results: Mlynarczyk and Puppi win races for the AGES | Trail Running News

Francesco Puppi and Martyna Mlynarczyk ran out the brilliant winners of the CCC race at the UTMB World Finals.

Italian Puppi, a legendary figure in trail running circles, bagged the biggest win of his career so far as he saw off American duo David Sinclair and Drew Holmen.

Mlynarczyk (POL) meanwhile upset the established order as she won the women’s race despite the last three winners – Toni McCann (RSA), Yngvild Kaspersen (NOR) and Blandine L’Hirondel (FRA) – all being up against her.

They were all to the fore early on but here’s how it all played out…

Women’s race – All about Mlynarczyk

The women’s race was a vintage one with the last three winners lining up – and they were 1-2-3 at the first aid station at Refuge Bertone.

Kaspersen led way by 14s from L’Hirondel, who in turn was 18s clear of defending champ McCann.

By La Fouly at 40.5km, L’Hirondel had moved into lead, nearly a minute ahead of Mlynarczyk, with McCann now nearly a further two minutes back in third and Kaspersen out of contention.

McCann then had a fall which ruled her out and, by Trient, L’Hirondel was the only one of the trio still in the mix.

Mlynarczyk, who led Western States for a long way earlier this year, was now 1:41 ahead of L’Hirondel who had a similar gap to Anna Tarasova (ESP) in third, with bigger gaps to the rest.

The finale was incredible – suddenly Sylvia Nordskar (NOR) burst into contention and she would overtake Mlynarczyk as darkness fell and the finish line beckoned.

But Mlynarczyk didn’t fold – just the opposite – she hit back, regained the lead and then held off her rival by just 18 seconds – after more than 100km!

Men’s race – Puppi a class apart

Andreas Reiterer (ITA) was 19 seconds ahead early on at the first checkpoint at Refuge Bertone and then Anthony Costales (USA) had exactly the same gap on a group behind – less than 20s separated the next eight.

By La Fouly at 40.5km, there were four neck and neck with literally one second between them – Puppi, Holmen, Sinclair and last year’s OCC winner Eli Hemming.

And the first three would go on to dominate.

At Trient after 70.6km, Puppi led the way by nearly five minutes from Sinclair.

Puppi was able to enjoy the final stages – he crossed the line in 10:06:02, more than seven-and-a-half minutes ahead of Sinclair, with another couple of minutes back to Holmen in third.

It was the second fastest CCC time ever from Puppi and he became the first Italian to win the race.

Afterwards he said: “We’re so back. That was hard. But hard is good. That’s what we look for. I’m really proud of how I ran – and how I got to this race and start line.

“And so thankful to the support team which surrounds me, without which today would not have been possible.

“There was a difficult moment on the 20k downhill from Grand Col Ferret but probably the hardest moment was in Valorcine (20k to go). I really had to dig very, very deep.”
