Monday’s 129th Boston Marathon was a whirlwind of incredible athleticism and grit, both in the elite and amateur categories. Kenya’s John Korir overcame an early stumble to win the men’s race in 2:04:45, the second-fastest time in the event’s history, while Sharon Lokedi of Kenya set a new women’s course record (2:17:22), surpassing the previous mark by more than two minutes. For Canadians, it was a day to remember: Rory Linkletter had the race of his life, storming to a stunning sixth-place finish and personal best in 2:07:02—the second fastest Canadian marathon time in history. Meanwhile, Toronto’s Kylee Raftis was the top Canadian woman, finishing in 2:34:41, just one second ahead of Rachel Hannah of Port Elgin, Ont.
Ontario’s Kristian Jamieson carried on a family legacy that extended more than 100 years, originating with his great-great-grandfather, Canadian legendary distance runner Tom Longboat, who was the 1907 Boston Marathon champion. Jamieson said running for Longboat’s legacy gave him purpose as he trained; he finished in 3:07:10 and plans to return in 2026. Check out Jamieson’s story on Canadian Running‘s The Shakeout Podcast, here.
More than 1,500 other Canadians proudly represented their nation on the famously hilly course; here are a few who had a particularly great day.
