For the second year in a row, the TCS London Marathon saw the women-only world record broken, with Olympic silver medallist and former world record holder Tigst Assefa breaking the tape in 2:15:50. In the men’s field, rising Kenyan star Sabastian Sawe clocked the second-fastest winning time in London Marathon history (2:02:27) to earn his first marathon major title, beating a stacked men’s field featuring world record holders and Olympic champions.
Although there were no Canadian elites in the 2025 London Marathon field, several runners in the mass race recorded impressive personal bests and notable age-category placements.
The fastest Canadian male finisher was Mitchel Dreise of Ingersoll, Ont., who ran a personal best of 2:27:35 to place 108th overall. Dreise shaved several minutes off his previous best and is set to line up at the 2025 Ottawa Marathon next month. In the women’s field, Carolyn Buchanan of Moorefield, Ont., was the top Canadian finisher, crossing the line in 2:36:27 to knock three minutes off her previous best. Buchanan’s strong performance also earned her a top-10 finish in the women’s 18-39 age category.
