SHOE REVIEW: Puma ForeverRun Nitro 2

SHOE REVIEW: Puma ForeverRun Nitro 2

When Puma launched the original ForeverRun Nitro in 2024, the brand aimed to carve out space in the shrinking, but still vital, market of high-cushion stability shoes. But the first iteration didn’t quite connect with its intended audience, feeling more like a speed bump than a standout, and falling short of the smooth, supportive ride stability runners crave.

When designing the ForeverRun Nitro 2, Puma went back to the drawing board. The result? A refined, more versatile daily trainer that blends plush comfort with reliable support. The updates make this second iteration a true contender in the stability category, offering a smooth ride that suits both recreational runners and everyday training.

The specs

Category: Stability cushioningWeight: 295 g (10.4 oz.) – men’s 9Drop: 10 mmStack height: 38 mm/28 mmAvailable: NowPrice: C$200.00

The upper

The upper features a breathable engineered knit design, reinforced with PWRPRINT overlays and a Run Guide System guiderail support to add structure where it’s needed most. Around the heel, a generously padded collar boosts comfort, while a thin, breathable tongue promotes ventilation.

As with many Puma shoes, the midfoot fit is snug and supportive, which may feel tight for runners with high insteps or wider feet. The forefoot is more accommodating, but the overall fit can feel a little secure at first, as it isn’t your typical stability or high-cushioned shoe. After a few miles, I found that the upper of the ForeverRun Nitro 2 kicked into gear, delivering a secure and plush fit a stability runner would be looking for.

The midsole

During testing, I found that the midsole of the ForeverRun Nitro 2 particularly stood out, especially for midfoot and heel strikers who like a soft, plush landing. The secret behind the cushy ride is the brand’s signature dual-density nitrogen-infused foam, which runs throughout the midsole. The setup features a softer, springier base surrounded by a firmer frame, striking a balance between bounce and stability. The stack has been raised, adding 2 mm of foam at the heel to bring it up to 38 mm. That added cushioning does result in a small weight increase (now just shy of 300 grams for men’s size 9), but sometimes you have to make small sacrifices for improved comfort.

The outsole

I’m personally a big fan of Puma outsoles, and the ForeverRun Nitro 2 stays true to that legacy. The brand continues to deliver some of the best grip on the market, thanks to its signature PUMAGRIP rubber. The outsole features strategic coverage in the forefoot, heel and midfoot—targeting high-contact zones to ensure reliable, all-surface traction. Even in wet conditions, the shoe holds its ground.

Final thoughts

There’s no question Puma’s ForeverRun Nitro 2 is a big step forward from its predecessor, offering noticeable upgrades across the board. That being said, the design still feels a bit overbuilt, to me. The combination of the high heel collar and Puma’s supportive Run Guide System made the shoe feel a little busy, especially during longer runs. To be fair, I’m a neutral runner, so this level of support simply does not suit my gait. But for runners who need extra support and want a cushioned shoe that can handle the demands of training, the ForeverRun Nitro 2 could be an ideal match. If you’re after an affordable, supportive daily trainer that delivers comfort, stability and durability, the ForeverRun Nitro 2 is definitely worth a look.
