With the boom in running there’s also been significant growth in the shoes, apparel and technology that goes along with it. One area that has seen major developments within the tech realms are headphones. Thanks to vast improvements in design, no longer do you see people battling to keep their buds in while the cable bounces around. It’s a cord-free world and with air and bone conduction technology, it’s also a safer one. Why? Well the beauty of these types of headphones is that you can hear the world around you while also listening to your music or making calls. For me, that’s the main benefit they’ve created. I do almost all my training in the city, which means traffic in the form of humans, bikes and vehicles, all of which are increasingly unpredictable. But by wearing these, I can stay in contact with the physical world while listening to a podcast or my favourite playlist.
The Langsdom AirWave Pro are a budget-friendly but high-quality option that have been specifically designed for active users. As soon as you open the packaging you know you’ve bought yourself a premium product. Apart from the stylish looking air conducting headphones they come with a magnetic charge cable which also doubles as a data transfer cable so you can make use of the inbuilt 32GB storage for your music. In the box you’ll also find an OTG adapter (On-The-Go) that lets you connect a USB device like a flash drive or headphones directly to your phone, plus there’s a user manual and a handy soft pouch to keep everything in.
The comfort is fantastic, whether you’re running in them or just sitting on a bus on the way to work. There aren’t any annoying pressure points and they weigh very little (26g). The only time I found myself adjusting them was when I was doing really fast intervals. Typically I wouldn’t have headphones on for speed work but I wanted to see how they’d fair. One interesting point is that I could still wear glasses and a hat without any issues. I had initially thought it would make things uncomfortable and was pleased to discover it was quite the contrary.
Starting them up is quick, easy and intuitive. In seconds I had them paired with my phone. Worth noting is that you can actually pair two devices with them at once. After the first couple uses I got myself organised and copied a playlist across from my laptop so I didn’t need to carry my phone while using them. As for the sound, well I found them to be crisp, just loud enough and not wanting at the higher pitches. When it came to the deeper sounds, the bass was lacking a touch. Keep in mind though, that I listen to a lot of dance and electronic music, so that can be quite bass-heavy. For phone calls they performed perfectly well, considering I wouldn’t normally take calls while out running and only did for testing purposes.
The battery life is amazing. I used them for about 14 hours without a charge and according to the manual they can last up to 17.5 hours. So that gives me a week of training use without having to plug them in. The other awesome thing is the build quality. IP67 dust and waterproofing means you can expose them to the elements as much as you like and they’re up to the task. No matter how much you sweat, or in the heaviest of rain, they’ll keep playing your tunes without skipping a beat.
