No Ingebrigtsen? No problem. Norwegian hurdling star Karsten Warholm stole the spotlight at the Bislett Games on Thursday night, breaking the men’s 300m hurdles world best in front of a roaring home crowd at the Oslo Diamond League.
Warholm ran 32.67 seconds, becoming the first man ever to break the 33-second barrier in the event. The race featured a stacked field, including 2024 Olympic 400m hurdles champion Rai Benjamin and 2022 world champion Alison dos Santos of Brazil, but Warholm pulled away in the final 50 metres, cutting three-tenths of a second off his previous world best of 33.05, which he set earlier this year at the Xiamen Diamond League.

Now, you might be wondering: What even is the 300m hurdles? And fair enough, as it’s not a traditional championship event. In March 2025, World Athletics recognized the 300m hurdles as an official statistical event, meaning it will now count toward world rankings and will be treated similarly to the 400m hurdles.
While the event won’t appear at the Olympics or World Championships anytime soon, World Athletics says it will commit to maintaining a list of top performances and will eventually define conditions for official world records, once the event gains traction. Two of the six Diamond League meets so far this season have featured the 300m hurdles, and Warholm has won both, clocking world-best times at each outing.

Two Canadian Olympians also lined up in the men’s 200m. Andre De Grasse finished third in 20.33 seconds, while Aaron Brown placed sixth in 20.65. Both sprinters are slated to compete again soon, with appearances planned at the Stockholm Diamond League in Sweden, and the Paavo Nurmi Games in Finland on June 17.
