We’re coming up on the one-year anniversary of Olympic 100m champion Noah Lyles‘ rivalry with Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill–and still, no race. Their much-hyped 60m-clash was called off less than two weeks ago. But now, fans might get the next-best thing: Hill vs. Josephus Lyles, Noah’s younger brother and a pro sprinter in his own right.
According to Essentially Sports, the showdown is set for Saturday at the ATX Sprint Classic, hosted at Southwestern University Track Stadium in Georgetown, Texas.
With an older brother like Noah, Josephus has flown under the radar, but he’s got serious credentials. The 26-year-old owns a faster 100m personal best than Hill (10.03) and has broken 20 seconds in the 200m (19.93). Back in the day, at the 2014 IAAF World Junior Championships in Eugene, Ore., Josephus helped Team USA win gold in the 4x400m relay.
Two weeks ago in Florida, he ran his first and only 100m of the 2025 season, clocking 10.23.
A close matchup
Still Hill–known as “Cheetah,” since he’s one of the fastest players in the NFL–might have the edge. After a 12-year hiatus from the track, on June 13 in California, the 31-year-old dropped a shocking 10.15 over 100m.
Thought he’s been focused on football for most of his career, Hill was a standout sprinter as a teen, winning gold in the 4x100m relay and bronze in the 200m (20.54) at the 2012 World Junior Championships in Barcelona.
Now, he’s getting more serious about returning to the track. He’s even coaching his nine-year-old son Zev, sharing their preparations for an upcoming meet on social media. “This is what it’s all about,” he captioned a recent post. “Big day tomorrow. Race day, for my lil boy.”
