As Moh Ahmed has travelled all over the world the past 13 years competing for Canada, he’s always stayed connected to his roots. After the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo, Ahmed plans to give back to the youth track club where it all began—Niagara Olympic Club (NOC) in St. Catharines, Ont.
“We’re proud to share that Moh Ahmed, current NOC member and Olympic silver medalist, will be lending his experience to our coaching staff this fall,” the club announced on Instagram. “Drawing on his experience, Moh has designed a world-class training program for our athletes.”
Ahmed is the Canadian record holder in both the men’s 5,000m and 10,000m, elevating each mark to world-class, medal-winning levels. The 34-year-old’s running career began more than two decades ago with NOC, leading to multiple Ontario high school (OFSAA) titles and a scholarship to the University of Wisconsin.
Now, he’s ready to share his expertise with the next generation of Niagara athletes, joining his younger brother, Ibrahim, who came on board in 2024 to coach the club’s distance running program.
The 2020 Olympic silver medalist has been a member of every Canadian national team since London 2012, and Tokyo will mark his seventh World Championships, which could possibly be his last on the track. Ahmed will be 36 by the time the next championships in 2027.
Ahmed’s 2025 campaign will begin on Sunday, Sept. 14, in the men’s 10,000m final, followed by the 5,000m heats on Friday, Sept. 19. Fittingly, these championships will be held on the same track where he won his Olympic silver in 2021. Could lightning strike twice?
