There’s never been a running race on the moon, yet. But Tenerife Bluetrail by UTMB is pretty darn close. On March 27-29, runners from around the world will descend upon this lunar landscape nestled in the Canary Islands to test their mettle.

And while we watch them battle themselves, each other, and the tricky terrain, we also get to soak in live coverage of this breathtaking landscape that encompasses everything from sandy beaches, jagged lava flows, and lush laurel and pine forests, to barren volcanic peaks.

As always with UTMB World Series races, the 110K, 73K, and 47K will provide automatic entries into the UTMB World Series Finals for the top three women and men finishers. Runners in those events plus the 24K will also earn “running stones” they can use towards the UTMB World Series Finals lottery.

Here’s everything you need to know about the 2025 Tenerife Bluetrail by UTMB, which you can watch live for free on Outside TV. (Full race coverage will also be available on demand after the finish to all Outside+ members.)

Who (and How) to Follow at Tenerife Bluetrail by UTMB

Born from a volcanic eruption in the Atlantic Ocean about twelve million years ago, Tenerife arrived in its current form after the fusion of three smaller islands around three million years ago. It’s now dominated by Mount Teide, a dormant volcano, which at 12,188 feet is Spain’s highest peak and makes Tenerife the 10th tallest island in the world.

At 2,034.38 square kilometers (785.48 square miles), Tenerife is the largest and perhaps most dramatic island in the Canary archipelago. And the 110K and 73K races cover a good chunk of it.

In fact, the 110K (68.4 miles) traverses the island end-to-end. It nearly summits Mount Teide for a whopping total of over 20,500 feet of climbing and descent. The 73K (45.3 miles) hits the same highlights. There’s also a 47K, 24K, 47K relay, and a vertical night challenge that all stick to the northern side of the island. But don’t let their shorter distances and lower elevations fool you. The 47K (29 miles) still packs over 8,500 feet of climbing.

The 110K, 73K, and 47K each feature some of the top trail and ultrarunners in the world looking to test their early-season fitness, as well as secure their spots into UTMB, CCC, and OCC next year. Highlights of the Tenerife Bluetrail by UTMB start lists include:

Tom Evans (U.K.), who won the Western States 100 in 2023 and CCC in 2018, headlines the 110K. He’s making his debut after switching shoe sponsors to Asics this year, so presumably he has a little extra something to prove.
He’ll face stiff competition from Dmitry Mityaeva (Russia/neutral), whose long list of accolades include second at TDS in 2019 and winning the 2023 Ultra Trail Cape Town 100K.
Ekaterina Mityaeva, Dmitry’s wife, headlines the women’s 110K. She’s performed well in the Canary Islands before, including third at the Transgrancanaria 127K in 2018, and recently on the Chiangmai Thailand by UTMB 100-miler in December.
Emily Hawgood (Zimbabwe/U.S.), whose long list of accolades includes sixth at the 2024 UTMB, fourth at the 2024 Western States 100, and second at the 2023 CCC, is the one to beat in the women’s 73K.
2024 European mountain running world champion Roberto Delorenzi (Switzerland) should add some fire to the men’s 47K.

In addition to the Tenerife Bluetrail by UTMB livestream on Outside TV, live tracking of all race distances will be available on UTMB Live and on the LiveTrail app for iOS and Android.
