Athletics Canada has announced the addition of three athletes to the Canadian roster for next week’s World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan.

Edmonton’s Dianna Proctor, Ottawa’s Eliezer Adjibi and Jacqueline Madogo (all previously named to Canada’s relay pool) will now also compete in their respective individual events. For each of them, this marks a first appearance at a senior world championship.

At just 20, Proctor will be the youngest member of Canada’s team. The reigning U Sports Rookie of the Year captured a collegiate indoor title in the women’s 300m during her first year at the University of Guelph. She is set to race the women’s 400m on Sept. 14, before returning as part of Canada’s 4x400m relay squad on Sept. 20.

Madogo, 25, made her Team Canada debut at the Paris Olympics last year, where she advanced to the semi-finals of the women’s 200m. She ran personal bests in both the heats and repechage to earn her place in the semis, ultimately finishing seventh. While her 2025 season has been slower to start, Madogo has a history of performing her best when the stakes are highest. She will open her world championship campaign on Sept. 17.

Adjibi enters the championships as Canada’s second-fastest man over 100m this season, behind only Jerome Blake. The 22-year-old clocked 10.02 seconds at the Bob Vigars Classic in late June, vaulting himself into the national sprint conversation and securing his spot on the team. This will be his first time contesting the 100m at a major championship, after serving as a reserve on Canada’s 4x100m relay squad at the Paris Olympics. He will take the blocks on Day 1, Sept. 13.

With 59 athletes set to compete, Athletics Canada is sending its largest-ever team to a world championship. The competition runs from Sept. 13 to Sept. 21 at Tokyo’s National Stadium.

Canadian Running will be on the ground in Tokyo with live coverage, results and interviews throughout the championships.
