On Tuesday, U Sports announced a roster of 50 collegiate track and field athletes who will represent Team Canada at the 2025 FISU World University Games. From 22 universities across the nation, 26 women and 24 men will make their way to Bochum, Germany, to compete against the world’s best from July 21-27.
This marks the first Canadian FISU athletics team since the 2019 championships in Naples, Italy; the 2021 Games were cancelled due to the pandemic, and in 2023, Athletics Canada did not send a team due to high costs and ongoing struggles with COVID-19.
The athletes, many of whom will be making their debut at the world stage, will be led by Western University’s head coach Vickie Croley, who concluded her final season with a double-banner U Sports performance. Notably, Western Mustangs athletes make up nearly a quarter of the roster.
